The Idar-Oberstein Economic Development Agency is looking for your mugs! To be more precise: well-preserved, clean cups with handles made of porcelain or earthenware - whether colorfully printed, with a company logo or simply plain. As part of the "Do you still have all the cups in the cupboard?" campaign, the town council is encouraging all citizens, companies and clubs to hand in unused cups for a good cause.
Sustainable glowing instead of disposable waste. The popular Christmas market "Adventsglühen" on Schleiferplatz in Idar-Oberstein is set to become more sustainable and climate-friendly this year. Last year, disposable cups caused unnecessary waste - this is set to change in 2025. With the help of the donated cups, a standardized reusable deposit system is to be established in order to avoid waste and conserve resources at the same time.
We are looking for: cups with handles (porcelain or stoneware), used or new, clean and undamaged with a capacity of 250-300 ml. Either with or without print, but please no offensive motifs.
The cups can be handed in until August 31, 2025 at the Idar-Oberstein city administration office at Georg-Maus-Straße 1 during regular opening hours Monday to Wednesday from 7 am to 4 pm, Thursday from 7 am to 6 pm and Friday from 7 am to 12 pm. For larger quantities, we will be happy to organize a collection, please let us know either by telephone on 06781-64 6073 or 6074 or by email at wirtschaftsfoerderung@idar-oberstein.de.
What happens to the cups? All collected cups will be provided with a dishwasher-safe campaign sticker and made available to the stand operators at the Christmas market. The result is a versatile, charming and sustainable mix of cups - individual, but still usable as part of a joint deposit system.
The aim is to collect 1,500 cups by the end of August, regardless of whether they are advertising cups, trade fair souvenirs or unloved gifts - every cup in good condition will find a new purpose in this campaign. Together with citizens and local businesses, the city council wants to collect at least 1,500 cups and set an example of sustainability in action. Everyone who hands in cups helps to avoid waste, conserve resources and use products for longer.
For Christmas market enjoyment with a clear conscience, act together now for our city and the environment. Every cup counts! Together we can make Advent even more sustainable. Thank you for your support and for taking part in this special cup campaign.
