Lesesommer and Vorlese-Sommer are part of the state-wide reading promotion campaigns "Lesespaß und Medienbildung aus der Bücherei", which are coordinated by the Rhineland-Palatinate State Library Center. The participating libraries are supported by the state with over 115,000 euros in funding and free materials and advertising.
The first step to reading - have someone read to you!
To take part in the summer of reading aloud, you have to register at the city library. For every book read to the child, a stamp is placed on the club card. Three stamps collected and a picture drawn of their favorite book qualify the children to receive a certificate. One club card per child goes into the lottery pot for the nationwide competition. The main prize is a children's bicycle, and a Lego set, Tonie box or Tonie figures, games and book vouchers will also be raffled off.
Register, read and win prizes
Registration is also required for the summer reading program. Participants can borrow and read current books for children and young people exclusively and free of charge. They give their assessment of the books they have read either as an interview, online in the form of an "online book tip" at www.lesesommer.de or via an analog book check. For each book read, there is a stamp on the club card and a rating card. Each of the completed rating cards is entered into the nationwide prize draw. The more you read, the higher your chances of winning. The main prize is a voucher for a two-day stay for four people at Europapark Rust with the Rulantica water world. Anyone who reads at least three books during the summer vacation will receive a certificate. Many schools also make a positive note of successful participation on a supplement to the next school report.
