Zekiye Karayilan is retired

Mayor Friedrich Marx, colleagues and staff representatives bid farewell to the long-serving cleaner at the municipal theater at a small ceremony.

In March 2001, Zekiye Karayilan initially worked as a cleaner at the municipal theater as part of the Hamburg model and was permanently employed by the municipal administration in March 2002. After ensuring the cleanliness of the municipal theater for seventeen years - most of which she spent alone - she later moved to the Göttschied daycare center and has now gone into well-deserved retirement.

"Our cleaning staff do an important job, because everyone wants things to be clean and tidy. Of course, this also applies to the guests of the municipal theater," explained Mayor Marx. Nevertheless, the work of the cleaning staff is often underestimated. Marx therefore paid tribute to the many years of commitment shown by Zekiye Karayilan, who was universally described as reliable and hard-working.

The soon-to-be retiree also emphasized that she had always given her best at work. Above all, she felt responsible for the municipal theater and knew her way around the countless rooms. "The municipal theater was like a home to me," said Karayilan. Those present then bid her farewell with a certificate of thanks and gifts and wished her all the best for the new phase of her life.
