Dear community, you are amazing! Around three weeks ago, the city's economic development department launched a call for used, well-preserved cups for this year's "Advent glow" on Schleiferplatz under the motto "Do you still have all your cups in the cupboard?" - and the response was overwhelming.
The aim of the campaign is to collect around 1,500 cups by the end of August in order to make the popular Christmas market more sustainable and do away with disposable cups. But even now, after a short time, the willingness of citizens to collect cups is so great that the warehouse is almost bursting at the seams.
That's why it's time to stop collecting cups! The economic development agency is taking a break from collecting cups to sift through the cups that have been handed in so far, apply dishwasher-safe campaign stickers and store them. This will ensure that every cup shines in new splendor for the Advent glow - ready for mulled wine, punch and a festive atmosphere.
"We would like to thank everyone who has already donated - the commitment of the citizens is simply fantastic," says the economic development agency. "It shows how many people want to join us in setting an example of sustainability in action."
What happens next? If more mugs are needed later in the year, the business development team will contact the public again. Until then, thank you for taking part - we'll be in touch again!
The planned reusable deposit system will create a charming, colorful mix of cups that avoids waste, conserves resources and gives the Advent glow a very special touch - for a Christmas market with a clear conscience. Every cup counts - but for now we're taking a break.
