More than 440 votes were cast in total and with a narrow majority of 128 votes, proposal no. 5 with the title "Eis Eis Baby" prevailed. Congratulations to Lena Fromm, who impressed the jury with her fresh and charming concept. In addition to an expense allowance of 2,500 euros, she will receive the unique opportunity to soon implement her design directly on site - and thus leave a lasting mark in the heart of Idar-Oberstein.
With great commitment and creativity, numerous people submitted their design ideas for a previously rather dull concrete surface above the ice cream parlor at the end of Idar's pedestrian zone. The aim was to enhance this uninviting location with art and also to permanently counteract a well-known graffiti hotspot.
"The response was impressive and once again shows how much creative potential there is in our city," says the city's economic development department happily. "The selection was anything but easy for us, we would have loved to implement all the designs!" Five particularly successful proposals were finally put to a public vote, on the city's social media channels and by email. The designs could also be viewed on site at the citizens' office.
The "Pimp My City" project is funded as part of the federal program "Sustainable inner cities and centers" and impressively demonstrates how co-design can work at eye level: Participate, co-decide - and make Idar a bit more colorful together! The economic development department is currently examining whether other particularly successful designs can also be realized in other parts of the city. Because one thing is certain: Idar-Oberstein still has many gray walls and many colorful ideas.
