After the Idar-Oberstein Old Town Run took place at the end of June, the next sporting event is already in the starting blocks with the Felsenkirche staircase run. On Sunday, September 21, 2025, this unique competition will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. And Modepark Röther is honoring this special occasion with vouchers worth 1,000 euros.
"We were happy to support this great event and Modepark is donating a round sum to mark the anniversary," explains store manager Dieter Ahrens. The vouchers are partly for the raffle, but the organizers Ilonka and Rainer Hagner from Marathonteam Hagner would also like to thank the team. After all, it takes many helping hands behind the scenes to ensure that the stair run runs smoothly. "Without the commitment of the volunteers and our sponsors, we wouldn't be able to pull off the event," say the Hagner couple. They would therefore like to thank everyone who has been involved in organizing the stair run for ten years now. This also includes Hans-Walter and Susanne Frühauf from Schwollener Sprudel, who recently visited the marathon team at a running meeting.

"I had the first idea for the Felsenkirche stair run at the end of 2011," says Rainer Hagner, looking back. However, it took until 2015 for this idea to become reality. "And now our cult event is taking place for the tenth time, that's how fast it goes." 49 participants have already registered for the anniversary, and experience shows that the majority of registrations only arrive shortly beforehand. In this respect, the organizers are very satisfied with the current status. Of course, they have also come up with a few surprises for the anniversary. Between the main race and the award ceremony, members of the Idar-Oberstein and Herrstein-Niederwörresbach youth fire departments will take part in a special endurance exercise. Wearing their complete personal protective equipment and breathing apparatus, they will run from the market square to Oberstein Castle. The event, themed 'fitness and team spirit', is a training exercise for the hill run. This stair run, which is specifically for fire departments, takes place in October on the Heini-Klopfer ski jump in Oberstdort and the training at the Felsenkirche stair run is the perfect preparation. "This is one of our anniversary highlights, and we'll be announcing more in the coming weeks," says Rainer Hagner.
To prepare for the stair race, the Hagner marathon team offers regular running meetings. Every Tuesday at 6.30 pm, runners can get to know the course and train for the competitions. The meeting point is always at the Oberstein market square.
