The topics that are discussed are diverse: safety in public spaces, traffic violations, neighborhood disputes, waste problems and vermin infestations - to name just a few. "The format gives us the opportunity to enter into direct dialogue with citizens and show them that we take their concerns seriously," emphasizes police councillor Kimberly Short. The consultation hour is part of the Idar-Oberstein police's new 'Combating crime in public spaces' concept. With this approach, the police and public order authorities want to respond specifically to safety concerns and strengthen preventative measures. "In the discussions, we can also explain what we are already doing in terms of security, but where our hands are tied as public order authorities, for example in the case of private legal disputes," adds Mayor Friedrich Marx.
Due to the positive experience, the joint citizens' consultation is to be continued in the future. A quarterly cycle is planned. The date for the next consultation will be announced in good time.
