Laura Kiefer, school social worker for elementary school, has been running the weekly 'school newspaper' working group at Idarbachtal elementary school since summer 2024. The name of the newspaper was chosen at the beginning of the project with the participation of the entire student body. The children can get involved creatively in the editorial team and decide together what content will appear in the newspaper. So far, three issues have been published, which are then sold in the school playground and in the classes for a fee of 1.50 euros. The proceeds are used to finance the printing costs.
The school then took part in the state-wide school newspaper competition with the third edition of the "Idarbachtal School Newspaper". After the positive news about the successful participation, Laura Kiefer, Paul Berzen and Jule Elligsen traveled to Mainz by train full of anticipation. "The school newspaper may change its publication and style, but it has lost none of its importance - on the contrary, it is becoming increasingly important," emphasized State Secretary for Education Brück at the award ceremony. It is irrelevant whether the information is ultimately printed on paper or can be read on the Internet. "School newspapers pick up on what is relevant for their age group - both inside and outside the school grounds." Winning the prize is an incentive for the editorial team to continue their commitment and live up to this claim.
