Idar-Oberstein City Library

City library? There are only old books there.

Wrong! Our range includes around 20,000 media. We offer the latest bestsellers, novels, crime novels, children's and young adult books, current guidebooks, travel guides, cookbooks and much more for you to borrow. We also stock magazines, audio books, Tonie figures and Tonie boxes, DVDs and console games. And the modern reading café invites you to linger.

There are also 3 PC workstations with Internet access available to users of the city library. Use costs € 0.50 per 30 minutes or part thereof.

Further information on the mission and task profile of the city library can be found in the library concept.

How do I register?

It's very simple! Bring your valid identity card or an equivalent identification document and you will receive a reader's pass. For the registration of children and young people under the age of 18, the signature of a parent or legal guardian on the registration form and the presentation of an identification document are required.

The city library charges an annual user fee for adults. You can find more information about this, among other things, in our user regulations.

ID cards for the Idar-Oberstein City Library can now also be applied for, extended or blocked online in the event of loss. Fees that may be incurred in accordance with the usage regulations can be paid directly online. You can find the online application under the following link

They don't have that anyway.

No problem! If a non-fiction or specialist book you need is not available, we can order it for you via interlibrary loan from another library in Germany. This service costs €2.50 per item delivered.

Today's children no longer read!

Wrong! We awaken an appetite for reading and strive to maintain close contact with the kindergartens and schools in Idar-Oberstein.

The city library's regular participation in nationwide reading promotion campaigns, such as "Schultüte" or "Adventskalender", is paying off.

We are happy to put together book boxes for school classes on specific topics or for reading nights. Guided tours for classes can be arranged by telephone. There is the possibility of working together on project days etc. We are always open to new ideas and suggestions.
