Prior to this, the city council and the member of parliament had discussed important future issues for the city of Idar-Oberstein. One central topic was the Strasbourg barracks. The site, located in the Algenrodt district, has been vacant since the US forces stationed there left in 2008. The city has initiated the creation of a development plan "Algenrodt Energy and Industrial Park" for a possible civilian reuse of the conversion area. However, due to the changed security situation in the meantime, a renewed military use would also be conceivable.
After the exchange, they went into the conference room, where they were joined by the chairman of the CDU city council faction Fredrik Grüneberg and senior office official Wolfgang Petry. Here, Bundestag President Julia Klöckner signed the Golden Book and received a commemorative gift of an amethyst tumbler with the city's coat of arms.
